COLLECTION OF SEA CAPTAIN’S WHALING MEMORABILIA. Mid 19th Century. Consisting of a small cherry and mahogany valuables box; an oval framed photograph labeled “Capt White”; a leather-covered pewter and glass flask; a leather-bound personal Bible, the name “E. White” written in pencil on flyleaf; his boat spade and a harpoon iron. The extent of the information available with this lot is that one “E. H. White” was a whaling master from 1841-1849, out of Cold Spring Harbor (Long Island, New York) and captain of the ship Tuscarora from 1841-1843; the last ship of which he was master was the whaler Sheffield, 1845-1849. SIZE: Box: 3-3/4″ h x 14″ l x 8-3/4″ w. Harpoon: 20-1/2″ l. CONDITION: Box is good overall. Framed photo faded but in good condition. Flask with losses to leather, otherwise good. Bible with wear but good overall. Whaling instruments with pitted surfaces and some rust, otherwise good. 9-90472 (800-1,200)
