AMERICAN CLASSICAL CARVED SOFA. 2nd quarter 19th century, possibly New York. The cylindrical figured mahogany crest rail with acanthus-carved rolled terminals with floral rosettes above the shaped upholstered panel back, flanked by scrolling arms with deeply carved acanthus leaves terminating in rosettes, centering the overupholstered seat fitted with cushion and bolsters, the seat rail with bolection molding centering a rectangular tablet, the whole raised on carved claw feet, the frontal legs with acanthus-carved sprays. SIZE: 35″ h. of back x 88″ l. overall x 25″ d. CONDITION: Retains original finish with minor surface blemishes, overall very good. Upholstered in rose red striped silk fabric.
