AMERICAN FOLK-ART SHOESHINE BOX. Early 20th century. The paint-decorated oak, pine, and sheet-metal box in the form of a shoe. The hinged, sloping lid serving as a footrest opening to the storage interior. The sloping shoe front of sheet-metal fastened to the sides with screws. The box painted in silver with black trim, the outline of sole and heel retains studs once fastening a leather sole (now absent). SIZE: 8″ h. x 17-3/4″ l. x 5″ w. PROVENANCE: This unique piece from the estate of David Wise. CONDITION: Retains original paint and fittings, with old original patina. The attached “sole” at base of box missing. 9-93029 (400-600)
