PAIR OF AMERICAN CHIPPENDALE CARVED MAHOGANY SIDE CHAIRS. Last quarter 18th century. The shell carved crest flanked by foliate carvings within the serpentine crest rail flanked by rolled ears, centering a broad vasiform splat above the trapezoidal molded seat frame, fitted with a slip seat covered in 19th century floral needlepoint. Raised on frontal cabriole legs with shaped returns terminating boldly carved claw and ball feet, the rear legs backswept. SIZE: 38-1/2″ h of back. 17-1/2″ h of seat. Overall w: 22-3/4″. CONDITION: Old restoration to one splat and to crest of same chair at top of splat, otherwise very good. 7-70204 (400-600)
