THE MARY DRUMMOND PICTORAL SAMPLER. Possibly Pennsylvania. This example featuring a three-story brick home surmounted by crowns and angels and two floral baskets beneath each of which is a cartouche with the name “Mary Drummond”, the second with “July 1830”. The house is flanked by stylized pine trees, pairs of birds and a pair of dogs. The whole within a stylized floral vinery. The upper half with rows of verse pertaining to friendship. “ON FRIENDSHIP/Tell me ye knowing and discerning few/Where I may find a friend both firm and true/Who dare stand by me when in deep distress/And then his love and Friendship most express”. Housed within a period mahogany with gilt slip. SIZE: Sight Size: 19-1/2″ x 12-1/2″. PROVENANCE: From a Private Collection.
