RARE FEDERAL NEW BRUNSWICK TALL CASE CLOCK. Circa 1825, Canada. The molded swan’s neck pediment with rondel terminal centering a brass ball and eagle finial above the arched door opening to a conforming frame decorated with scrolling leaf tips flanked by freestanding colonnette with cast-brass Corinthian capitals and brass bases, the dial with Roman Numeral chapter ring centering a subsidiary seconds ring above a calendar aperture flanked by time and strike apertures. The filigree hands delicately designed and chased. The enamel painted dial with the name “Wm&G. Hutchinson St. John N.B.” all within paint-decorated and gilded floral and fruit spandrels beneath a moon face dial in the arch. The weight driven eight-day brass movement striking on a bell. The case throat with rectangular molded and crossbanded door above a mahogany molded panel flanked by engaged quarter columns joined to the cove molded box base raised on suppressed ball feet. Note: William Hutchinson of New Brunswick, Canada was a clockmaker whose family emigrated from Ireland in the early 1800’s. It is believed that in 1819 William was joined by his brother George in the clock making trade and continued as a partnership until 1856. It is believed that this example was made during the early part of this partnership. Clock is offered with finial, pendulum and weights. SIZE: 8′ 2-1/2″ h. Throat: 15-3/4″ w x 10″ d. PROVENANCE: Collection and shop contents of Linda and the late Vito Peri (owners of the Blue Dolphin Antique Shop, Northport, Maine). CONDITION: Case with early professional repolishing and with cosmetic veneer repairs. Dial mostly original with small areas of touch-up to paint. Movement appears refurbished.
