JOHN CALLOW (British, 1822-1878) THE PERILOUS COASTLINE. Oil on canvas coastline scene shows five different size boats in stormy seas just off a large grass covered cliff. A signal light is seen at point of land alongside a red flag. The foreground with a broken mast and barrel. Scene is shown under an ominous backlit sky. Unsigned. Housed in a fine antique gesso decorated gilt frame with gilt liner. SIZE: 12″ x 20″. PROVENANCE: From a fine North Shore, MA Collection. Accompanied by a letter from Waterhouse & Dodd dated 1999 regarding authentication. CONDITION: Relined, some minor touch up. Very good. 9-98823 (1,500-2,500)
