TWO NATIVE AMERICAN DECORATED CANOE CUPS. Late 19th-early 20th century. Each dipper carved from the solid,;the first paint-decorated depicting a bear amidst tree trunks, the reverse marked with the name of the owner “MALLAWIN R.V.”, the original rawhide strap affixed to handle with original carved toggle in the form of a canoe (7-3/4″ l.) The second carved with the figures of a bear and a moose, now fitted with a later belted toggle (length of dipper 5-5/8″). SIZE: As noted above. CONDITION: Both with old shellaced exteriors and original paint decoration, in very good overall condition with nice patina. The second example with old shrinkage crack in bowl, filled and sealed at time of carving. 9-93028 (400-600)
