DIMINUTIVE GEORGE II WALNUT CAMPAIGN BUREAU. Mid-18th century. In two parts, the figured walnut upper case crossbanded and with hinged sloping lid, opening to a stepped interior of valanced pigeonholes above a row of five blocked drawers; the lid on lopers. The sides fitted with carrying handles above candle slides, fitted to the dovetailed lower case of two aligned drawers over three long drawers, all crossbanded, on a molded base raised on bracket feet, the sides fitted with carrying handles. SIZE: 37″ h. x 24″ case w. x 17-1/2″ d. PROVENANCE: From a southern Connecticut collection. CONDITION: Overall, the case appears quite original with old surfaces. Hardware also appears original. The walnut veneers are applied over pine on the lower case, applied over oak on the upper case and drawer fronts. Bracket feet appear to be original. Interior appears to have later enhancements. A nice small example of a traveling, or campaign, desk/chest. 9-94000 (6,000-8,000)
