RARE CASED ENGLISH MARKED COLT MODEL 1860 STOCKED ARMY REVOLVER.

RARE CASED ENGLISH MARKED COLT MODEL 1860 STOCKED ARMY REVOLVER. SN 156355. Cal. 44. Beautiful Colt Army with 8″ rnd bbl, German silver front sight and 1-line “NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA” address with dashes. Left side of frame has “COLTS PATENT” and left shoulder of trigger guard has the caliber marking. Frame is 3-screw type cut for shoulder stock with flat head hammer screw. Cyl is rebated, usual 6-shots and has the Ormsby Naval battle scene roll marking. Revolver has the rare feature of a blued steel front strap & trigger guard with blued steel back strap with stock dimple which contain a varnished 1-pc walnut grip with SN in back strap channel of which three matching numbers are visible. SNs on the bottom of bbl lug, frame, trigger guard & butt strap are all accompanied by a small “L” which signifies that this revolver was destined for England. Accompanied by a fine orig English oak casing with empty brass disc in the lid, swinging brass latches on the front with a mortised brass lock. Interior is green baize lined with a Colt’s directions label inside the lid and compartmented in bottom for the revolver, buttstock, a Dixon bag flask marked on top of collar “COLTS NAVY FLASK”, a blued steel 2-cavity mold with sprue cutter marked on right side “44H”, a Dixon pewter oil bottle, an L-shaped nipple wrench, two packets of combustible cartridges and a tin for Eley’s caps. Right rear compartment is covered and contains lead bullets and a wood handled steel cleaning rod. Left side of bbl lug & cyl have British proofs. These Colt revolvers were produced at Hartford for the English market and obviously were cased & accessorized in England. The stock is also Hartford produced with silver plated brass yoke & buttplate. Wood is uncheckered straight grain American walnut and there is a swivel & ring in the bottom tang. Buttplate & bottom tang are matching numbered to the revolver. Extremely few Model 60 revolvers were manufactured with the steel trigger guard and very, very few of those were cased and shoulder stocked models are virtually unknown. CONDITION: Extremely fine, all matching including wedge, cyl, grip & stock. Bbl retains about 80% glossy orig blue with the losses flaked, not worn to a dark patina with a couple of small spots of pitting from poor storage on right side. Rammer handle retains most of its orig case colors turned slightly dark. Frame & hammer retain virtually all of their strong bright case colors. Cyl retains 60-70% plummy blue with stronger blue in rebated area and with five safety pins serviceable. There is one small area of light pitting on the cyl and overall retains about 85% Ormsby Naval battle scene. Trigger guard & back strap retain most of their orig strong glossy blue with some minor flaking on front & back straps. Grip is sound with a light stock gouge on each side and some light edge wear with light nicks & scratches and overall retains 85-90% strong orig varnish. Mechanics are crisp, bright shiny bore. Stock is sound with a few, very minor finish scratches and retains most of its orig bright varnish. Yoke retains about 70% strong orig silver and buttplate about 90% with strong blue on screws.
