EXCEPTIONAL BLACK FOLK ART CARVING OF A YOUNG BOY (Late 19th/Early 20th Century) POSSIBLY OHIO. Carved from the solid, depicting a young man in a sitting position, hands crossed in lap, and with crossed legs. Carved with a pleasant and lifelike smile, attired in a three-button jacket with collared shirt, with three-quarter length trouser or knickers, posed with bare feet. NOTE: Chair for prop only. SIZE: 48″ h x 14″ w x 25″ d. CONDITION: The carving with professional restoration, painted surfaces have been restored, the torso carved from the solid in two half sections and joined with butterfly clips. Each leg joined to the torso at the thigh. This appears original. Surfaces show normal and expected light wear commensurate with age. Very fine conditional overall. 9-90359 (30,000-40,000)
