THOMAS LUNY (AMERICAN, 1759 – 1837) FIGURES IN FERRY AND SAILING BOATS AT TEIGNMOUTH, DEVON. Unsigned oil on canvas scene shows a ferry full of people with other people and horse beside. Three boats are seen in the narrow waterway with other small rowboats. The far shore with a grass covered cliff and multi-story house all under blue and gray cloud sky. It was signed on the stretcher but has been relined on new stretcher. Housed in a fine gesso-decorated replacement frame having artist plaque. SIZE: 20″ x 27″. PROVENANCE: Sir Godfrey Llewellyn, Christie’s, 14 July 1972, Lot 84. CONDITION: Relined. Very good. Some inpainting. 9-20278 (3,000-4,000)
