EARLY AMERICAN FIGURED MAPLE BUTTERFLY TABLE. Late 17th- early 18th century elements, Massachusetts. This nice example with rectangular top and deep hinged demilune leaves projecting above the rectangular frieze with canted sides, raised on conforming baluster-turned and blocked splayed legs, joined to rectangular box stretcher, joined to butterfly wing supports. We believe the table originated in the Pilgrim century with a history of several restorations. Note: This table was acquired at Sotheby’s Parke-Bernet Auction Galleries, New York, November 1957 as referenced in a handwritten note attached to the underside of the table top. SIZE: 23-1/2″ h. PROVENANCE: From a fine coastal Westerly, RI estate. CONDITION: In restored good condition, with mellow patina and honey brown color. 9-28334 (2,000-3,000)
