1) Lots 2267 & 2267A will be sold together as Lot 2267 with an estimate of $5,000-$7,000. 2) Please Note: There is a typographical error in the Lot 2267A portion of the lot where in the description it states “(signed) John Adams President Attest, Samuel Swan, Clerk”. This is actually signed by James Sullivan who is President of the Corporation. The document is of course also signed as can be clearly seen in the image “John Adams” as noted in the description. 3) Also the catalog stated “top inscribed in post written script: Boston, Feb 25, 1826…” It is actually Sept 25, 1826.

TWO MIDDLESEX CANAL HISTORICAL DOCUMENTS BY JOHN AND JOHN QUINCY ADAMS. 1) John Quincy Adams 1767-1848, hand-inscribed Middlesex Canal document with seal as follows: I appoint Thomas Boylston Adams of Quincy in the County of Norfolk, Esquire, my Attorney, to receive Dividends, if there ever should be any, on my shares in the Middlesex Canal Corporation – To vote and act for me at all meetings of the Stockholders, as I could myself if personally present, and to transfer in my name and behalf, all or any of my Said Shares, conformably to the Rules of the Corporation – With power of Substitution. Witness my hand and Seal this 7th day of July 1809. John Quincy Adams. Signed, Sealed and delivered in the presence of Louisa Catherine Smith, W. Steuben Smith. Verso inscribed: Power J.Q. Adams to T.B. Adams, Middlesex Canal. To receive Dividends, vote, transfer. 2) PRESIDENT JOHN ADAMS DOUBLE SIGNATURE DOCUMENT ON MIDDLESEX CANAL. John Adams 1735-1826 Printed and inscribed Middlesex Canal Stock Document as follows: No. 270. This certifies the Rufus G. Amory Esq. of Boston on Proprietor of Share, No. Two hundred Seventy on the Middlesex Canal; which Share is transferable by assignment on the back hereof—- the same being entered on the Records of the (covered with seal).
