ONE OF A KIND AMERICAN TIN BELL TOY WITH CUPID. A fresh to the market as well as sensational previously undiscovered bell toy by Fallows! Cupid astride a butterfly’s body, obviously in pursuit of his next two lovers. As the toy is propelled along the floor, the butterfly’s wings flap, Cupid rises and falls, and the bell rings, warning of Cupid’s imminent arrival. The luminescence of the large multicolored embossed wings is stunning. Cupid himself is in flesh tone paint with gilt wings and sash about his midsection and highlighted with brown hair. This is all upon an embossed orange red painted tin base with iron wheels. With the frailty and delicacy of this toy, one can wonder how such a wonderful toy survived. This toy was recently discovered in a southern state, tucked away for perhaps well over 100 years. Upon research, we have discovered a catalog cut from Conway Brothers of Philadelphia referring to this toy as #1032 “Mechanical Cupid Butterfly with Gong Attachment”. Certainly a must-have for collectors of American tin toys as well as those collectors who fancy bell toys! SIZE: 8″ l x 8-1/2″ h. CONDITION: In as found, untouched condition. Overall paint is extremely fine. 1-7661 JL (7,500-15,000)
