CHARLES SCHRIDDE (American, 1926-) “WILD THANG”. Large oil on canvas rodeo scene shows a bronco buster in the midst of his performance. The cowboy, with blue jeans, red jacket and white hat is being bucked by an aggressive stallion. The image is given movement by the swirling yellow background and dust being kicked up by the horse. The view of this bareback ride is seen from above and the background strokes influenced by Van Gogh’s painting. Signed lower left. Housed in a stained wood frame with linen and gilt wood liner. Reference: Illustrated accross two pages in the front of the book of Charles Schridde, Western Impressionism and also on a single page, page 26. Noted to be in the Collection of Chris Witteveld. A copy of this book accompanies this work. This outstanding work exemplifies Schridde’s illustrative prowess and knowledge of the rodeo action. SIZE: 29″ x 39″.
