AFTER PEDRO NUNEZ DE VILLAVICENZIO (Spanish, 1644-1700) “MARY AND JESUS AT THE CROSS”. Oil on canvas scene shows Mary seated at the bottom of the cross where Jesus has been taken down and two cherubs are nearby. The clouds are opening with a sunlit area. Signed center bottom illegibly. Housed in an early 19th Century gesso decorated gilt frame. An old pen script label on top of stretcher and name added to the back of the canvas in black marker. SIZE: 24-1/2″ x 18-1/2″. CONDITION: Relined, inpainting. Very good. 9-96833 (3,000-5,000)
