JULIAN SCOTT (American, 1846-1901) THE SCARLET LETTER. Oil on canvas landscape scene shows a woman and child picking flowers next to a path with oncoming man having a walking stick and sword. The woman’s dress having below her collar a large red “A”. An early evening scene with colorful banded sunset. Signed lower left and dated “1884”. Housed in what appears to be its original gilt gesso decorated frame with gilt liner. SIZE: 12″ x 22″. CONDITION: One small patch to reverse with minor inpainting.
