UNSIGNED (Continental, 17th/18th Century) SAMSON DISPLAYING THE HEAD OF GOLIATH. Large oil on canvas scene shows an outdoor landscape setting with a young man in blue robe with sword holding the recently decapitated head of Goliath. He is displaying his conquest to eight maidens who sprinkle flowers in his path and dance with tambourines. This is all seen under a large tree with city, mountain and lake background under a colorful blue, pink and white cloud sky. Housed in a 19th Century wide and deep gesso decorated frame with gilt liner. SIZE: 40″ x 49-1/2″. CONDITION: Old relining, small patch to reverse, inpainting. Very good. 9-96846 (12,000-16,000)
