PHILIP KLIER (German, 1820-1885) SIX WORKS: BUTTERFLY PLATES. Each unframed watercolor & pen on paper mounted to light cardboard. They depict different butterflies with some labeling. Meticulously rendered in different views. Accompanying the lot is a typed letter from Elizabeth Klier with the history of Philip and his talent for drawing butterflies. Also there is a translated letter dated “1876” from Count Gustave of Enzenberg regarding his review of all of the butterfly watercolors that he was given. He took it upon himself to mount the paper on light cardboard and then bind them in two volumes. He returned them to Philip and wanted nothing in return. SIZE: 8-1/4″ x 6-1/4″.
