BRASS SEXTANT IN ORIGINAL CASE. Last quarter 19th century, California. The sextant with all lenses intact and present. Mounted in its original box with retailer’s label “A. LIETZ CO.,MANUFACTURERS OF SCIENTIFIC INSTRUMENTS” affixed to the interior lid of the box. The label with hand written inventory number “23086-19.” Additionally, a manufacturer’s paper label reads: “T.S. & J.D. NEGUS NAUTICAL INSTRUMENT MAKERS 140 WATER ST. NEW YORK.” The brass instrument impressed with the maker’s mark: “NEGUS. NEW YORK.” SIZE: Sextant: 11″ w x 9-1/4″ d. CONDITION: Based on the condition of the handle and lenses, it is reasonable to assume that this instrument was rarely used. Sextant in very good condition. Case with shrinkage crack at top. Carrying handles absent. Otherwise very good. 9-28546 (700-900)
