CHARLES SCHRIDDE (American, 1926-) “THE ROPER”. Outstanding large oil on canvas rodeo scene shows a man in blue jeans and white striped red shirt lassoing a calf just dismounting his horse and preparing the take down of the calf and the roping of its legs. He is seen in mid air as the horse stops. He holds the reins and has the rope in his mouth. A blue sky background, a yellow fence and figures behind. Signed lower right. Housed in a fine antique style stained wood frame with inner linen and gilt liner. Reference: Illustrated in a full page color illustration on page 56 of Charles Schridde, Western Impressionism. The caption states that this was a commissioned piece and in a private collection. This outstanding work exemplifies Schridde’s illustrative prowess and knowledge of the rodeo action.
