AMERICAN SILVERPLATE PRESENTATION FIREMAN’S SPEAKING TRUMPET AND DECORATED LEATHER FIREMAN’S PARADE BELT. Last third 19th century. The horn engraved with foliate scrolling vinery centering crossed spears and lantern above a shield cartouche framed by ladders and pikes centering the engraved inscription “1st Prize For Hook & Ladder Co. Feb. 22nd Date 1870”. Retains woven silk tassel strap. The black leather belt with cream sawtooth border stitched with a cartouche at the back applied with the letters “MECHANICSVILLE”, the leather fastener similarly mounted with a large numeral “1”, signifying Mechanicsville, New York, Fire Dept. Company 1. SIZE: 21-1/2″ l. of horn. 23-1/2″ l. of belt. PROVENANCE: From a home in New York State. CONDITION: The horn with small crease dent on mouthpiece, pinpoint dents in body, pinprick hole in mouth, and slight denting. The belt with minor losses to border, retains original paint, old surface with good color, leather buckle holder torn; otherwise good. 9-91046 9-92321 (2,000-2,500)
