JULIUS NOERR (German, 1827-1897) THE SUCCESSFUL HUNT. Oil on mahogany panel winter hunting scene shows men on and off horseback outside a tavern with a sled with recently shot stag. The hounds gather at the feet of a man with large brass horn and whip accepting a glass from the taverns barmaid. Kids look on at the fallen majestic animal. Chickens are seen in the foreground and a city is seen beyond the leafless trees. Housed in its original gilt gesso decorated frame. Signed lower left. The mahogany panel with a stamp “ADRIAN BRAGGER MUNCHEN”. Accompanying the painting is a copy of the original receipt dated November 17, 1885 from Emanuel van Gelder. SIZE: 13-1/4″ x 22″. PROVENANCE: By descent from E.R. Squibb, founder of E. R. Squibb & Sons. CONDITION: Very good, surface dirt. 9-22295 (2,000-3,000)
