PILGRIM CENTURY PINE PAINTED DECORATED BIBLE BOX. First half 18th century, New England. The rectangular one board top joined with leather strap hinges to the conforming box, the interior of which is divided at the midpoint. The lid with thumbmolded edges, the box with a molded base raised on turned ball feet. Box front with early but not original paint decoration depicting the initial “AS” centered by a double handled urn emitting scrolling floral vinery, all on a terracotta ground. Interior of the lid with early paint stencil decoration. SIZE: 12-1/4″ h x 24-3/4″ l x 12-3/4″ d. CONDITION: Structurally good with expected wear and imperfections. The interior with some insect damage. The feet early if not original. Leather straps still present, although non-functional. 9-20344 (2,500-3,500)
