CASED COLT POCKET NAVY CONVERSION REVOLVER. SN 4186. Cal. 38 RF. Nickel finish with 5-1/2″ bbl, pin front sight and 1-line “NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA” address. Left side of frame is marked “COLTS PATENT” and hammer nose is fitted with a firing pin on left side retained by two rivets. Conversion was affected by machining away the rear of cylinder to expose chambers and attaching a conversion ring that has loading gate with internal spring to the recoil shield. Brass grip frame is fitted with a varnished 1-pc walnut grip that has four digits of SN in back strap channel “4146”. SN’s were observed on bottom of bbl lug, frame, trigger guard & back strap with cyl having three digits of SN “170”. SN’s on frame, trigger guard & butt strap are accompanied by a tiny “N” signifying nickel plating. Wedge is properly unnumbered. Spindle & loading gate bear the assembly number “4215”. Accompanied by a rare, orig, purple velvet lined, Colt mahogany casing compartmented in bottom for revolver and an open compartment in right rear corner containing a functioning key. Left front & center of the case has a mahogany cartridge block containing 111 orig 38 caliber rimfire cartridges. Also included is a Colt L-shaped screwdriver from a commercial semi-auto pistol. PROVENANCE: David Crocker Estate Collection. CONDITION: Revolver appears to be nearly new and may or may not have ever been fired. Overall it retains about 96% strong, bright orig nickel finish with some losses around muzzle and minor flaking around face of cylinder. There is some light pimpling on hammer. Balance of nickel is bright & strong. Hammer screw is slightly battered and all screws retain most of their orig fire blue. Grip is crisp with a small gouge on left side and a couple of other very minor nicks & scratches and retains virtually all of its orig factory varnish. Mechanics are crisp, brilliant shiny bore. Case is sound with minor storage & handling nicks and retains about all of its orig factory varnish. Interior is lightly to moderately faded with light soil & wear in bottom with one spot in lid from an impression made by cylinder. Ammunition is lightly oxidized but fine. 4-36871 JR33 (3,000-5,000)
