ALEXANDRE JOSEPH DAIWAILLE (Dutch, 1818-1888) AND EUGENE VERBOECKHOVEN (Belgian, 1799-1881) SUMMER AFTERNOON. Outstanding oil on canvas bucolic summer landscape having sheep and cows in a grassy pasture beside a cascading stream with high rock banks leading to the shepherd and his dog who rest on the grassy top under large trees. Several farmhouses are seen beyond the animals under trees and mountain. A blue & cloud sky casts shadows of light throughout the scene. Signed lower right by both artists. Housed in a fine gesso decorated gilt frame with gilt liner having metal artist plaque. SIZE: 21-1/2″ x 31″. CONDITION: Very good, relined with some inpainting. 9-21874 (5,000-8,000)
