REMINGTON NEW MODEL ARMY TRANSITION PERCUSSION REVOLVER. Cal. 44 Perc. SN 24443. Blued 8” oct bbl. Unusual markings, “NEW MODEL” in a separate marking behind the 2-line address “PATENTED SEPT. 14. 1858 / E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION. NEW YORK. U.S.A.”. This type marking appears in early transition models. Revolver has brass triggerguard, dovetail cone front sight & 2-pc smooth burl walnut grips. This revolver is an early transitional (’61 model to the New Model). Gun is circa mid 1863. It is all New Model parts except for the ’61 bbl. The grips show military inspector Giles Porter’s cartouche “GP” at bottom of left grip. CONDITION: Good. Metal surfaces have been cleaned and chemically toned. Grips have been cleaned & the cartouche is barely visible. Bore is lightly pitted. Action is fine. 4-59377 JH138 (1,500-2,000)
