EARLY AMERICAN PAINT-DECORATED AND GRAINED DOME TOP STORAGE BOX. Circa 1800, New England. This nice pine dome top box possibly a decorators “sample” box, the hinged lid with brass carrying handle with simulated mahogany graining opening to a storage compartment fitted with shaped and carved dustboards at sides of lid. The box with simulated bird’s eye maple graining at ends and tiger maple graining at front and rear within freehand black-painted borders. The dovetailed case retaining original iron hinges mounted to the exterior. SIZE: 8-3/4″ h x 19″ l x 10-1/4″ d. CONDITION: With very good dry original paint, in untouched condition with very minor surface abrasions. Very good overall. 9-29170 (1,200-1,500)
