FINE EARLY AMERICAN DIMINUTIVE DECORATED DOCUMENT BOX. First quarter 19th century, New England. The rectangular box with stencil and freehand decoration. The lid with a basket of fruit emitting floral sprays within a geometric border, the front similarly decorated, the case ends with stenciled scallop shells. The hinged lid opening to reveal the name “Cordelia” in fancifully painted black script. SIZE: 4-3/4″ h x 9-1/4″ l x 4-3/4″ d. CONDITION: Painted and stenciled surfaces original beneath a thin varnish overcoat showing very minor wear and abrasion. Box retains original brass hinges. 9-29166 (1,500-2,500)
