FINE CHIPPENDALE CHERRY SLANT-LID SECRETARY, PROBABLY NEW YORK. Second half 18th century. In two parts, the upper rectangular case with molded cornice fitted with a pair of paneled cupboard doors, the case corners canted and fluted, above the dovetailed lower case with hinged sloping lid opening to a blocked interior fitted with valanced pigeonholes, two banks of three blocked drawers, the uppermost shell-carved, the prospect door similarly carved, flanked by a pair of fluted document drawers. The case with four long thumbmolded drawers flanked by fluted canted pilasters on a gadrooned base, raised on bold ogee bracket feet with shaped returns. SIZE: 88-1/2″ h. x 41-3/4″ case w. x 22″ d. CONDITION: Professionally repolished over old surfaces, retaining nice color and patina. Retains original backboards and hardware.
