EARLY 19TH CENTURY SAMPLER AND SILHOUETTE (ANCESTORS OF MAINE SENATOR MARGARET CHASE SMITH). This wonderful lot includes a vertical hand stitched colorful sampler with decorative flower vine border. Eleven alpha-numeric rows, below which is “WROUGHT BY REBECCA H. HIXON AGE 8”. Accompanied by a silhouette in original frame depicting Miss Hixon and is inscribed above image “REBECCA H. HIXON”. A family note from 1978 indicates some family history. Rebecca Hixon was an ancestor of one of the most famous female legislators ever in the history of our country, Mrs. Margaret Chase Smith from Skowhegan, Maine. SIZE: Sampler Sight: 17″ x 13″. Overall: 18″ x 14″. Silhouette Sight: 5″ x 3-3/4″. Overall: 7″ x 5-1/2. CONDITION: Sample is very good, retaining much of its original color.
