CS 7” BROOKE SHELL. Excavated. Having a copper Brooke ratchet sabot and fitted for a Confederate fuse (missing). From the grounding of the Virginia or the Richmond at Trent’s Reach on January 23, 1865 as reported by James K. Mitchell, Flag-Officer of the James River Squadron per the Navy Official Records of the War of the Rebellion. Shells were dumped to lighten the ships. CONDITION: Small push to copper sabot.
