LOUIS XV INLAID CHERRY “BUFFET EN DEUX CORPS”. Second half 18th century, France. The cabinet in two parts: the upper case with molded cornice above the frieze inlaid with a pair of songbirds perched on scrolling floral branches emanating from an urn. Above a pair of cupboard doors, each with floral inlay. The panels bordered by scrolled molding set and stepped back on the lower case fitted with a three aligned drawers, all with ebony string inlays, the center most above an inlaid scrolling floral bouquet, above a short pair of cupboard doors. The whole with large cast-brass pin hinges and escutcheon plates cast as fanciful stylized dolphins. SIZE: 95-1/2″ h x 58″ w x 25″ d. CONDITION: Cabinet remains structurally sound with old professional repairs throughout. Inlays intact and with original brass fittings. Various shrinkage cracks and restoration to side panels in lower case. Overall good. 9-27399 (2,500-4,000)
