UNSIGNED (American School, 19th Century) PORTRAIT OF A YOUNG WOMAN OF THE LIVINGSTON FAMILY, HOLDING A RED LEATHER BOUND HYMNAL. The hymnal, which appears in this painting, will accompany this lot. The hymnal is titled, the Psalms and Hymns … by John H. Livingston, New York, 1814. The leather bound book has a heart clasp chain and fancy clasps. The portrait shows a young woman seated in a red upholstered chair, holding the hymnal in her left hand. she wears a ring, a pin and double strand pearl necklace. A fancy earring is seen in one ear and her dark brown curly hair is in the style of the period. Housed in a fine replacement gilt frame with gilt liner by the Guido Frame Studio.
