VERY FINE SERAPE ORIENTAL CARPET. Last quarter 19th century, Northwest Persia. the central arabesque medallion in madder red with pale jade lobes within a conforming blue/black medallion set within madder red field within ivory spandrels, all with angular polychrome floral vinery. The blue/black main border of geometric floral trelliswork with madder red guard borders of scrolling floral vinery. SIZE: 12’3″ x 9’5-1/2″. PROVENANCE: From a fine Maine and New York private collection. CONDITION: Colors remain strong. Carpet with even wear. Small areas showing traces of foundation, otherwise with pile. Wear commensurate with age. Fringe absent. Selvedge intact, with some areas of restoration to selvedge. Otherwise very good. 9-29907 (10,000-20,000)
