UNSIGNED (American, Mid 19th Century) PORTRAITS OF AMANDA WESTLAND BILLINGS AND WILLIAM WARNER BILLINGS. Oil on canvas portraits as follows: 1) Half portrait of a woman seated in a red upholstered chair wearing a black dress,lace collar and cameo brooch. Amanda died in Boston March 23, 1891. 2) Half portrait of a man in formal black suit seated in a red chair. Unsigned works, identically housed in lemon gold period frames. William was born in Albion, Maine 1820 and died in 1899. This lot represents the parents of the previous maker of the sampler. SIZE: 27-1/4″ x 23-1/4″. PROVENANCE: De-accessioned from a Central Maine institution. CONDITION: Very good. 9-93886 (2,000-4,000)
