SILKWORK PAINTING. Circa 1809, the Falwell school, England. This fine needlework rendering of seated girl reading a book at the shoreline. A large house is depicted in the background beyond water. Within a reverse painted eglomise mat housed within a later, molded wood frame. SIZE: 13″ x 15″. Overall: 19-1/4″ x 20-1/4″. PROVENANCE: Notation in old script on paper backing reads: “Marked on the picture by Maria S. Day. 1809. Original frame thrown away. Reframed by Isabel P. Pashley. August 1932. Granddaughter of Maria (Day) Kellogg Whittier. Daughter of Katalena Whittier Peckham”. CONDITION: Overall very good. 9-27772 (900-1,200)
