ENGLISH MAHOGANY AND OAK INLAID TALL CASE CLOCK WITH JOHN HILL MOVEMENT. Case: first quarter 19th century; brass movement: mid 18th century, England. The short door oak case with mahogany veneers within string and banded contrasting inlays with swan’s neck pediment and with simulated short drawer below door raised on bracket feet. The 8 day movement with brass and silvered dial with Roman and Arabic chapter rings centering subsidiary sweep seconds dial above time, strike and date apertures centering a silvered plaque engraved “John Hill King Street Covent Garden”. All centered by cast gilt brass spandrels beneath a moon phase arch with tidal and calendar scales. Clock offered with pendulum, winder and weights. SIZE: 90″ h x 16″ w of throat x 9″ d. CONDITION: Clock case in need of cosmetic veneer repairs, generally very good. Dial and movement appear recently refurbished and cleaned. Date wheel also appears operable. 9-25598 (2,000-3,000)
