EDOUARD JEAN BAPTISTE DETAILLE (French, 1848-1912) “REVIEW OF THE 1ST LIFE GUARD”. Oil on canvas military scene shows a broadside view of a soldier atop a black stallion. He wears formal red jacket with armor vest and spiked helmet. In background are a number of other soldiers in line up fashion. All set in a grass area under cloud and blue sky. Signed lower left “Edouard Detaille 1879″. Housed in a modern gilt, carved wood frame. On back of stretcher is an original American Art Association Anderson Gallery exhibition label from February 4, 1931 Sale No. 3887, lot #24. SIZE: 18-1/4″ x 15”.
