CS 10-POUNDER READ-PARROTT SIDE LOADER SHELL. Battlefield pick up. Fired. Accompanying is an orig type Confederate time fuse with an orig paper time fuse. Often referred to as a lead side-loading “Read” shell; Read patented the shell’s sabot but it was intended for the Parrott cannon. Wrought-iron sabot with large lathe dimple in base. Case shot projectile with lead side-loading plug. This shell was picked up from the battlefield of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and was engraved by Mr. Woodward, ‘GETTYSBURG 1863” in cursive writing on side of shell. Shells in this condition are hard to find and even harder to find with the provenance from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
