MINIATURE CANOE MODEL, PENOBSCOT CANOE CO., OLD TOWN, MAINE. 1st quarter 20th century. This fine and rare example covered in green leather material, the hull of planked construction, the gunwales anchored with brass brads, the seats with original caning. The end decks are distinguished by an astragal arch at the terminating point. A similar example was sold at the Copley Fine Art Auction Gallery, Boston, Massachusetts. A nearly identical example was offered at Brunk Auctions, Asheville, North Carolina, in January of 2006. SIZE: 50″ l. PROVENANCE: From the Estate of Milton “Buck” Hard (1893-1965), Burlington, Vermont, the athletic director of Burlington High School (1922-1960) after whom the gymnasium and football stadium were named. CONDITION: Very fine original condition, with minor paint losses at midpoint of canoe bottom. Small area of restored gunwale in bow, small chip out of end deck at bow. 9-99051 (8,000-15,000)
