IVAN FEDOROVICH CHOULTSE (Russian, 1877-1932) AVANT LA NUIT (FINLANDE). Outstanding oil on canvas winter sunset scene having a hillside with Evergreens. At the top of the hill is a line of tall Evergreens all under a bright sunset which is reflected on puffy clouds in colors of yellow, orange and purple. Two small areas of sky is seen. The hill and trees are covered with a recent thick blanket of snow. A cascading stream flows down the hill to the foreground. Signed lower right “Iw. F. Choultse”. Housed in a fine gilt fancy replacement frame. Back dust cover having a Coe Kerr Gallery, Inc. New York label. SIZE: 26″ x 32″. PROVENANCE: The Woolworth Collection (FW Woolworth, Dept. Store). CONDITION: Very good, old relining with minor inpainting. 9-96543 (50,000-70,000)
