AMERICAN NEEDLEWORK SAMPLER WROUGHT BY LUCY ANN TRASK, WISCASSET, MAINE. Ca 1833. Wrought in silk on linen cloth with alphabet rows within floral zigzag border the upper and lower borders wrought with floral sprigs centering a basket of stylized fruit, all in shades of blue, green and beige. Signed and dated “Lucy Ann Trask age 10 Wiscasset August 8 1833”. Mounted in a later frame. SIZE: Sight Size: 16-1/4″h x 17″w. PROVENANCE: This sampler descended in the estate of Richard Edmands Chapman of Boston, MA a descendant of Edward Chapman who arrived in Boston in 1639. Richard Edmands Chapman was the only child of George Washington Chapman who was a ship captain from Wiscasset, Maine. Chapman sailed cargo to England and France and Cuba during the early to mid-1800’s. Lucy Ann Trask is a direct descendant of George Washington Chapman. CONDITION: Very good condition with overall fading. Small areas of brown staining, most notably in lower third, not severe. No deterioration or damages to linen cloth noted. 9-94448 (700-1,000)
