RARE AND FINE REGENCY GILT LOOKING GLASS WITH WEDGWOOD PLAQUE. First quarter 19th century, England. The rectangular mirror plate within a beaded surround within a secondary mirror plate boarder, anchored by floral paterae. Within a stylized foliate boarder the tablet crest inset with a wedgwood jasper allegorical plaque titled “Birth and dipping of Achilles”, rendered in the late 1700s, by Josiah Wedgwood and Sons. Within a beaded frame surmounted by a classical urn with foliate drapes. SIZE: 45″ h x 53″ w. PROVENANCE: By descent through the Walter Rothschild family of New York. CONDITION: Secondary mirror plates with slight overall foxing. Gilded surfaces with some wear. Otherwise very good. 9-27913 (2,000-3,000)
