COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER WITH EARLY BELT & HOLSTER RIG. SN 137501. Cal. 44 WCF (44-40). Usual configuration with 4-3/4″ bbl, full front sight and 2-line address with left side roll-marked “COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER”. Left side of frame has 2-line, 3-patent dates and rampant Colt in a circle. Left front web of trigger guard is marked “44 CAL”. Mounted with Colt hard rubber rampant Colt/eagle grips. Accompanied by a fine authentic ” J.S. COLLINS & CO. / CHEYENNE WYO.” cartridge/money belt and dbl loop holster rig. Belt bears the early Collins cartouche on tongue billet and the holster is marked with the early Collins shield with intertwined initials “JSC” and “CHEYENNE” at the top. Rear edge of holster is dbl stitched with a harness rivet repair near toe. Plug & thumb strap are missing. The skirt, behind the holster, has an L-shaped Colt percussion screwdriver inserted through two slots. Accompanied by a Colt factory letter identifying this revolver in cal. 44-40 with 4-3/4″ bbl, blue finish with type of stocks not listed, shipped to Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett Co., Chicago, IL on Jan. 14, 1891 in a shipment of 25 same type revolvers. Also accompanied by a John Kopec letter of appraisal dated “1992” wherein he documents the history of the Collins Company. CONDITION: Revolver is about good having been severely cleaned, probably chemically, leaving the metal with a light gray patina and some very minor pin prick pitting. Lock bolt & trigger screws are replacements as are a few of the grip frame screws. Grips have a chipped left toe and right rear edge and show moderate to heavy wear. Mechanics are fine, strong bore with moderate pitting. Belt is worn & crackled with much broken stitching with all of the cartridge loops intact. Tongue billet has been reinforced over the outer 4-1/2″ and has a break about half way through at the flex site where the reinforcement begins. Holster is equally heavily worn with some losses around toe and overall retains 40-50% orig finish. Lining also shows heavy wear. 4-40268 JR102 (2,500-3,500)
