SET OF 12 GEORGE III MAHOGANY DINING CHAIRS. Early 19th century, England. Comprised of 2 armchairs and 10 side chairs. Each rounded molded back centering 5 pierced splats above a trapezoidal overupholstered leather tacked seat with serpentine frontal rail raised on channeled square frontal legs and backswept rear legs joined by a recessed box stretcher. Armchairs with molded shaped arms and supports. SIZE: 36″ h of back, 18″ h of seat. PROVENANCE: By descent through the Walter Rothschild family of New York. Purported by a member of the family to have been used to entertain Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Lord Louis Mountbatten while visiting with the family. CONDITION: Several with minor restoration to back rails. Surfaces with old finish. Generally very good. 9-27912 (1,000-1,500)
