INDIAN USED COLT CAVALRY MODEL SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER. SN 13003. Cal. 45 Colt. Usual configuration with 7-1/2″ bbl, slightly altered front sight and 1-line script letter address. Left side of frame has 2-line patent dates and a small “U.S.”. The tip of ejector rod housing is wrapped with sinew-sewn rawhide with a cutout area which would expose the ejector rod head. The entire grip & butt strap are covered with sinew-sewn rawhide with smooth silver conchos on each side, apparently held with three brass pins. There is a trace of nickel finish in the bottom front gullet of frame and around root of bbl at the frame and inside the cyl opening of the frame leading one to speculate that this may have been an Indian Scout revolver that was either lost or stolen during its period of use as it has remained in its orig configuration, escaping the recall and conversion to artillery. Ejector rod head is broken away which leaves the remaining portion of the ejector rod floating free which jams the cylinder and prevents rotation. Broken rod piece was removed and accompanies this revolver. Examination of the broken end reveals that it has been broken for some time which probably accounts for the revolver surviving. Hammer screw is a crude replacement and right back strap ear screw is stripped. SN on cyl has been re-stamped. Accompanied by a soft leather, Indian made holster decorated with three smooth silver conchos that have tin cone tassels. Rear edge of holster & the belt loop are hand stitched with buckskin. Toe of holster is also buckskin stitched and decorated with tin cone tassels. Belt is probably an old captured cavalry belt that has been decorated with four Mexican pesos that have been attached to cartridge cases which were then used as studs to attach the coins to the belt. Each of the coins have horsehair decoration underneath. Belt is studded with about 22 square shank brass tacks with about three others missing. Belt appears to be very old and authentic with the holster of somewhat more modern vintage but still shows very good age & wear. CONDITION: Revolver is fair to good being mostly a very dark attic patina with numerous nicks, scratches & scrapes and some minor fine pitting. Rawhide is solid showing light to moderate wear. Mechanics are fine, strong dark bore. Holster & belt are soft & supple with belt retaining about 50% black finish. Holster is smoked dark leather, also soft & supple. 4-40188 JR101 (5,000-10,000)
