FINE EARLY AMERICAN LADDERBACK ARMCHAIR. First third 18th century, New York or Connecticut. This fine example in maple, ash, and hickory. The four-slats, each shaped and chamfered, joined to sausage-turned balusters and urn-shaped finials with nippled mushroom caps joined to downswept serpentine arms with shaped handholds centering the trapezoidal woven seat raised on sausage-turned frontal legs joined by a box stretcher with frontal stretcher boldly turned. SIZE: Back: 45″ h. Seat: 16-1/2″ h. CONDITION: With early black paint over original red, untouched, with nice patina. 9-29172 (1,600-2,200)
