COLT ETCHED PANEL FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER WITH BROWNING BROTHERS HISTORY. SN 106382. Cal. 44 WCF (44-40). Blue & color case hardened with 7-1/2″ bbl, full front sight and 1-line block letter address. Left side of bbl has the etched panel “COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER”. Bottom of bbl has a tiny “44” just forward of base pin. Left side of frame has 3-line patent dates and left front web of trigger guard is stamped “44 C.F”. Mounted with a fine old 1-pc ivory grip with raised carved ox head on left side. Accompanied by a Colt factory letter identifying this revolver, as found, with type of stocks not listed, shipped to Browning Brothers, Ogden, Utah Territory on Aug. 3, 1887 in a shipment of 6 same type revolvers. PROVENANCE: David Crocker Estate Collection. CONDITION: Very good. Bbl retains 60-65% orig blue, strong & glossy in the most sheltered areas especially under ejector rod housing. Etched panel appears to have been over-cleaned but is still completely legible. Frame & hammer are cleaned gray metal patina with traces of case colors in sheltered areas. Grip frame retains blue in most sheltered areas. Cyl is mostly a thin blue patina on outer circumference with strong blue in the flutes. Grip has slightly chipped toes and some minor erosion at right top edge, otherwise fits fine. It has several light age lines and overall retains a wonderful dark golden ivory patina. Mechanics are fine, strong bright bore with a few scattered spots of pitting. 4-36860 JR14 (3,500-5,000)
